Church and State That about says it all for me. Nothing is more obviously morally wrong, stupid, and completely indefensible than participating in a war. By making war we support the worst elements of the state and also perpetuate the cannabalization of the human spirit so long supported by all of the major religions. Each time two groups of idiots set out to kill each other it is always something they are forced, against their wills, to do because of the horrible activities of those other people we deeply regret murdering. Unfortunately our regret about murdering huge numbers of foreigners never quite seems to be great enough to keep us from doing it in the first place. And of course if you live in the USA, it is not necessary to wait for the enemy to attack you, you can invade a country that just coincidentally has billions and billions of barrels of oil because you deeply suspect that they wish they could attack you. Just Say No!I had a chance during the Vietnam war to go drop New Improved Napalm II on villagers living in thatched huts in Southeast Asia. The Dow Chemical company had learned that the evil Viet Cong had taught the children of Vietnam to shake off the fire that falls from the sky, so Dow, in a selfless effort to protect our freedom and preserve our American way of life, developed an adhesive that was added to New Improved Napalm II so it would stick to the flesh of little children as they burnt to death. Imagine the nerve of the people of Vietnam, trying to decide what kind of government they would have in their own country without the permission of the US Government. The people of Vietnam had not attacked America, and there was no possibility that they ever would or could attack America, but the Communists trying to gain control of their own country were not friendly to the interests of American Corporations, or do I mean religions? Or maybe both? On August 23rd, 1968 I refused induction into the US Army at the induction center in Philadelphia PA. I expected to be sent to a federal prison for up to five years. I had chosen going to jail over aiding and abetting in the crime of mass murder. Before leaving that day I sat down, wrote a full confession, and offered in writing to come back as often as the United States of America wanted me to for the purpose of refusing induction again. Two years and eight days later I was arrested in the manager's office of the Sears, Roebuck and Co. store in Coatesville, Pennsylvania where I was employed as a TV Repairman. I had been out doing service calls, and finished them all, when I stopped back in to the office. The Service Manager, my boss, told me to go directly to the Store Manager's office and that's where the two armed Federal Marshalls were waiting for me. On January 5th, 1971 my very clever Philadelphia ACLU attorney defeated the US government in federal district court. I had walked in to the building for my trial, expecting to go to prison there and then, and instead I walked out of the courtroom a free man. Of course if I had gone to prison I would have been just as free, because I had done what I knew I needed to do. The Present DayToday we are asked to believe a whole new crop of lies. We no longer need to fear that the Vietnamese Navy is going to sail into San Francisco Bay in their giant fleet of thatched reed junks in order to burn down all of our churches as part of the International Communist Conspiracy. It's no longer the case that Commie Sympathizers are hiding under every bed. Now we are asked to believe that Sadam Hussein intends to rain down nuclear missiles on every elementary school playground in America. Won't somebody think about the children? And of course we are expected not to notice that, just by coincidence, this nation from which we need protection just happens to have lots, and lots, and lots more oil. As I write this in January 2003 the news is telling us how worried the US Government is that the Iraquis might burn their own oil wells in their own country when the foreigners from the USA invade. Now if we were really worried about Sadam Hussein being such a mean old bully, and he certainly is, then wouldn't we be worrying about what would happen to his people when we invade? But instead of worrying about weapons, instead of worrying about civilians, instead of worrying about human lives, the US Government has been telling the press that they are worried about the oil wells. And how did our oil get under their sand? Selling the War to the PeopleFor the best war, the nation doing the imperialist agression by invading another sovereign nation must first sell the idea to their own hapless citizens. After all, we need people to make all the bombs so the corporations can make profit selling them to the government. And the government needs bombs so that our heroes can kill all those foreigners. The more bombs we drop the more innocent civilians killed. The more innocent civilians killed the more profit made by the corporations that run the US Government. The people of the United States may not want another war, but the corporations that own and operate the government do. Seventy years ago the Nazis wanted to exert their influence over the entire globe. They knew how much better off the whole world would be if they were running the show. But first they had to sell the German people on the idea of invading other countries for the good of the Peoples Glorious War. They had to first develop the strategy to get their people to believe it was a good thing to send their army into another country, killing the people that lived there for the glory of God-State. "The people can always
be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That |
